At the moment, Carbon Health offers medical abortion (via medication, only for patients that are at a gestational age under 11 weeks) in California via virtual and in-person care in select primary care clinics.
Carbon Health currently only provides select abortion services in California. If a person is seen virtually by a qualified provider in California, their PCP will prescribe the medication electronically to a pharmacy. Patients can coordinate with their pharmacies directly if interested in receiving the medication by mail.
If you are experiencing an urgent or life-threatening medical emergency, call 911 or go to the closest hospital immediately.
Carbon Health currently provides medical abortion services in California, and we will continue to provide such services within California state lines.
We were devastated by the Supreme Court’s news to strike down a longstanding constitutional federal right to abortion. At Carbon Health, we believe that reproductive care is healthcare, and reproductive rights are human rights. We will continue to offer a spectrum of reproductive healthcare services in our clinics and virtually.
If you are looking for information on how to legally obtain an abortion, we suggest that you speak directly with one of our healthcare providers who can assess your individual situation and help you understand
Carbon Health believes that reproductive care is healthcare and reproductive rights are human rights. We are also doubling down on our birth control offerings, including emergency contraception. We will provide financial support to employees to travel to obtain an abortion. We also plan to join industry efforts to impact policy change.
Can I still access birth control and Plan B even if I am based in a state restricting abortion?
Yes, birth control and emergency contraception are still legal, even in states with abortion bans. At Carbon Health, we offer clinical evaluations for birth control and emergency contraception in all of our clinics and through virtual care in all states where we operate. It is important that you talk with your provider about your birth control needs so you can come up with a plan together.
Emergency contraception or Plan B is meant to prevent a pregnancy from occurring. It is a type of birth control, not an abortion. To be effective, emergency contraception must be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex.
Emergency contraception is available over the counter at drugstores and pharmacies. Carbon Health providers can also prescribe emergency contraception if you prefer a prescription version.
Your Carbon Health provider can prescribe you different birth control options based on your needs. It is important that you discuss your options with your doctor to ensure your birth control fits your lifestyle.
How can I ensure my medical information is safe and won’t help my resident state prosecute me if I get an abortion out of state?
At Carbon Health, we will defend and protect the data of our patients from being used against them in criminal abortion actions. Additionally, for those who receive abortion services in California, the governor passed a bill making the state a “safe haven” which means the state will protect patients who receive abortion services in California by refusing to cooperate with states who attempt to prosecute such patients.
